LOL @ Nas' Hip Hop is Dead. That certainly was an ironic title, because the second half of that album demonstrated exactly WHY hip hop died. Weak beats, crossover R&B hooks, uninspired production, and did I mention the R&B hooks?

Bring back sampling and loops, because hip hop just hasn't adjusted to original production yet.

Pronay, please feel free to post up some of your favorites. As I said, I'm no where near an expert on modern hip hop. There were other songs that people have told me to listen to that I didn't get to until the past couple weeks, hence they didn't make the list.

I try to keep an open mind about everything. I mean, seriously you don't see many lists that had both Young Joc (I loved that song and I know that's not cool with the "Net Heads") and Atmosphere (who I personally really like), which would be considered "Nerd Hop" of sorts I guess. If I like it, I like it, so I won't aplogize for anything.

As far as that Blue Sky Black Death album goes, I found it god awful, but in the end it's only an opinion. There might be worse ones out there, but those are the ones I listen to once then never play again. This album was getting some critical acclaim so I listened to it 3-4 times just make sure I wasn't missing something. In the end it just basically sucked.

And to Mr.Anon (I love when cats can criticize but not use an actual name) feel free to drop something that is worthwhile to listen to. I'll admit, my interest in Hip Hop doesn't lie in the modern aspect of it anymore, I spent 75% of my time listening to older stuff. In the end, it's all an opinion, respect that and move on. Or if you are alluding to tracks that got released last Oct, I could give a fuck less, If I listened to it this year for the first time then it got put on this list.

I still stand by the fact that shit is bland and young cats are just used to this fact

aiight i got a chance to breeze thru HOLOCAUST and it's not THE WORST, but i prolly won't listen to it much.
i also got the HEAP OF BROKEN IMAGES cd 2 w/the emcees and that's pretty nice.
my dude also hooked me up with some warcloud ish (new & old) and he sounds better (that's not saying much- his hooks are wack!) on those beats than BLUE SKY BLACK DEATH's..

Well ok, I found 'The Ocean' on that disc listenable, but only because of the beat. Did you check Blue Sky Black Death's previous album this year? If you listen to the track 'Scriptures' and see what Lil Sci did with one of their beats, it's awesome. I wish he'd had the opportunity to make a disc with BSBD instead of Holocaust.

Congratulations boys on one of the most informative and entertaining end of year lists that I've seen in blogland. The Panties awards are hilarious! Because I'm still catching up on older stuff I have missed a lot of this year's releases so I'm not really in a position to comment on the selections, but it has definitely given me food for thought and a host of things to check out. Let's hope that 2007 brings us some truly great stuff so that we can start looking forwards instead of backwards (although let's not get carried away).

Much respect on your work over the years, as I said before, WYDU really was an inspiration for me starting my own blog - hope that you are still checking it and feel that it is worthwhile. Take it easy fellas.

I'll have to disagree with you on 'The Holocaust' being The Worst Album, although I've listened to the album with friends and heard comments about the oddity that is this cat's voice; It is rather odd the voice he's adopted recently. I don't remember thinking that when I first heard him on the 1st Bobby Digital LP.
I haven't listened to the Saafir LP in it's entirety yet to make a "worst" determination, but really, you couldn't find a worse album?
In other news, good lookin' for puttin' me up on Chris Lowe and Dooley O. Happy New Year.
